  • ACAD 100 - Strategies for College Success
Units :1 Unit
Prerequisite :None
Lecture :1 hours per week
Academic Advancement 100 is designed to maximize students'; collegiate achievement by introducing students to the college environment and educational opportunities. The course includes both general and individualized information. In general, the course covers academic procedures and policies, college services and facilities, and the language and opportunities of the California higher education system. The course is individualized by assessment of each student';s learning style, study skill strengths and weaknesses, and the development of his / her education plan. Students gain the Knowledge and skills needed to fulfill their academic potential at SBVC as well as their long-term occupational goals.

  • ACAD 110 - Tutor Training
Units :1 Unit
Prerequisite :None
Lecture :.50 hours per week
Laboratory :1.50 hours per week
Departmental Advisory :Completion of the courses to be tutored with a minimum grade of "B", departmental recommendation, or related experience.
Techniques and strategies for effective academic peer tutoring in a community college setting. Emphasis on tutoring, study skill techniques, and practical skills to use in a variety of tutoring situations.
Associate Degree Applicable

  • ACAD 900 - Employability Skills
Units :1 Unit
Prerequisite :None
Laboratory :2 hours per week
An introduction to the skills necessary to find and maintain a job; the emphasis in the course is on learning appropriate skills to be successful on-the-job. Covered will be information on skills needed to conduct a successful job search.
Not Applicable to Associate Degree

  • ACAD 910x4 - Vocational Basic Skills Enhancement
Units :3 Unit
Prerequisite :None
Laboratory :6 hours per week
This class offers a review and practice of basic skills activities in mathematics, reading, writing, English as a Second Language, and applied computational and verbal skills. Graded on Credit / No Credit Basis only.
