Library research assignments are often used by instructors
to reinforce skills learned in the library tours. Check with your instructor
to see if a worksheet has been assigned to your class and what the due
date is for the assignment.
Many instructors use one of the two assignments that
have been prepared by the librarians. For both of these assignments
pick one topic as a theme for all questions on the worksheet. You may
use one of the topics provided on the worksheet, or one of your own
choosing. You may pick up a copy of either worksheet at the Reference
Desk in the Library or you can download them here in .pdf format. You
will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print the research assignments.
Adobe Acrobat Reader is available
free.
The standard three-part Library Research Assignment
includes the segments on the
Online
Catalog, the
Readers' Guide to Periodical
Literature and the
Reference Databases,
(specifically SIRS Researcher). The Online Catalog and Reference Database
portion of the worksheet can be done from any Internet accessible computer.
You will need to follow the link above for logging
into the Online Catalog. You will also need to have the Remote access
instructions for SIRS Knowledge Source. The Readers' Guide to Periodical
Literature is a set of books and must be used in the library. Readers'
Guide is available in most larger public libraries and academic libraries.
