The Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature is an alphabetical subject guide to magazine articles that have been published from the year 1900 to the present. The SBVC Library has many magazines that support this index, including some that date back to the first half of the 20th Century. To verify that SBVC Library carries the title you are looking for check the Periodicals Holdings List located at the Reference Desk.

Specialized periodical indexes are available for looking up academic or scholarly journals. These indexes are arranged the same way as the Readers' Guide, but they deal with specific subject areas. Specialized periodicals indexes include: Applied Science and Technology Index, Art Index, Business Periodicals Index, CINAHL (Nursing and Allied Health), Education Index, Humanities Index and Social Sciences Index.

Newspapers Indexes to the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times, are also available in the SBVC Library. The New York Times is indexed in print and stored on microfilm back to 1851. The Los Angeles Times is indexed in print back to 1972 and is available on microfilm back to 1969. The SBVC Library has two microfilm readers that will print photocopies of articles from the microfilm.
