LIB 062 - Care and Repair of Library Materials
Units :1 Unit
Basic, hands-on instruction in the binding, repair, and care of printed library materials.

LIB 069 - Library Automation for Library Technicians
Units :2 Unit
Introduction to the application and integration of computer systems in libraries. Students will be exposed to a variety of computer applications including online public access catalogs and automated circulation and cataloging systems. In addition, students will gain entry-level proficiency in utilizing compact disc technology and in conducting online database searches. (NOTE: Any other hands-on college level computer course will also meet this requirement.)

LIB 110 - Information Literacy
Units :1 Unit
An introduction to the skills needed to effectively access library and online information sources, to critically evaluate the information retrieved, and to practice ethical behavior in regard to information technology. (NOTE: LIB 110 can apply toward the 18-unit major in Library Science for a two-year Associate Degree, but it is not a requirement for the one-year Library Technology Certificate.)

LIB 064 - Introduction to Libraries for Library Technicians
Units :1 Unit
Introduction to the philosophy of library service; the history and types of libraries; the relationship of a library to the community it serves; the organizational structure of libraries; the role of the Library Technician; and the development of workplace attitude.

LIB 065 - Public Services for Library Technicians
Units :3 Unit
An introduction to library circulation systems; customer service skills; bibliographic instruction; inter-library loan procedures; shelf maintenance; image in public service; handling of problem patrons; and basic reference skills, including a review of standard print and computer-based reference sources and their usage.

LIB 066 - Acquisitions for Library Technicians
Units :3 Unit
Introduction to the publishing industry; principles of collection development; bibliographic searching; acquisitions tools and techniques; accounting and budgeting procedures; an overview of ordering, receiving and claiming procedures; and weeding procedures.

LIB 067 - Library Technical Services
Units :3 Unit
Introduction to descriptive and subject cataloging; classification of materials using the Dewey Decimal and Library of Congress systems; preparation of catalog cards and computer database records; and use of electronic bibliographic utilities.

LIB 068 - Library Media Services
Units :2 Unit
Provides an overview of a wide variety of media services within a library setting, ranging from the more traditional formats of film and video to the more recent compact disc technologies, digital audio, digitized video, telecommunications, and hypermedia.

LIB 198 - Library Work Experience
Units :1-4 Unit
Supervised work experience, 5 -- 20 hours per week. (NOTE: This course may be waived if the student has been a full-time library employee for at least a year.)

ENGL 055 - Children's Literature (or any other literature course)
Units :3 Unit
Children's literature or any other college-level literature course will meet this certificate requirement.

CIT 010 - Beginning Keyboarding
Units :3 Unit
Fundamentals of keyboarding, including operation of a standard keyboard by touch. Use of speed and accuracy drills designed to develop a keyboarding speed of 30 words per minute. (NOTE: This course may be waived if the student can pass a typing test and/or provide proof from his/her employer that he/she has demonstrated the ability to type at least 30 words per minute for five minutes.)
